Children’s Author

Anne Stairmand

Anne has had an extensive career in education as a literacy consultant, director of humanities college, prepared schools for incoming heads, worked with the National Literacy Trust on the Literacy for Life project, worked with businesses and Cognition on the Retrain and Regain initiative and has been in charge of school improvement to raise standards.

She has trained mentors and worked with FE to improve literacy in subjects across the curriculum, once again to raise standards.

As an author she has worked with London Boroughs as an author in residence for Waltham Forest, building the link between schools and libraries.

In Barking and Dagenham Anne has worked as an author in residence, built the link between schools and libraries with workshops and borough competitions and raised the awareness of reading.

She has been instrumental in developing opportunities between schools and libraries, working with competitions liaising with Pen to Print, and over several years Anne has developed an excellent working relationship with Barking and Dagenham.

Anne has delivered author visits in countless schools all over the country and thoroughly enjoys engaging with children, teachers and parents to share the joy of reading through writing workshops, drama, school presentations and classroom interventions.

Anne is on the books of Authors Abroad for visits in schools for author visits and AIM Higher workshops.

Anne’s books are funny, sharp and satirical and range from ages 3-11 years old, and are packed with amusing names to entertain her readers.

Anne is also the founder and CEO, of Refuge In Literacy UK, a charity which encourages authors to donate signed copies of their children’s books to families and children in domestic violence refuges.

Alongside this to help families and children, there is an extensive programme reading prompts from birth to eleven years old that feed into the comprehension strategies used in nurseries, playgroups and primary schools.
